Greetings!

Once upon a time there was a group of girls. We all come from different backgrounds, different religions, and different high schools, but nevertheless we all became friends in CEGEP where we completed the Arts and Sciences program and thenceforth became The Sisterhood.
Here is an introduction to the sisterhood:

Alex
D.O.B.: 10/30/1990
Faith: Jewish Agnostic
Career Path: Medicine
Known as: The crazy one who drags her Sisters on insane adventures
This year, she is: At home, studying Physiology at McGill University, while minoring in Theatre and Social Studies of Medicine, the polymath that she is (FYI: Polymath has nothing to do with Alex's mathematical abilities, which are in fact limited - it means, says the OED, "A person of great or varied learning...acquainted with many fields of study" - math not really being one of them).
Then again, hopefully, with all the time she is spending in the Physics Lounge with Lili and her new friends, she will become good at math by osmosis. Then again, as a physiology student, she should know that osmosis doesn't work that way. (It is, after all, on her exam, which she should be studying for instead of writing this).

Lili
D.O.B.: 09/22/1991
Faith: Increasingly Buddhist
Career Path: Hobo (or so she says, with all her so-called "unemployable interests")
Known as: The Pianist Who Didn't Actually Go Into Music, who is at the very confluence of the Classical and Romantic worldviews, which is what makes her brain such an interesting one to pick.
This Year, she is: Also at home, studying Joint Honours Math and Physics at McGill University, immersed into a world where people make up equations in their spare time and live and breathe physics (then again, don't we all live and breathe physics, given that we are nothing more than molecules in motion?)

Briah
D.O.B. 04/30/1992
Faith: Very Jewish And Proudly So, (She is, after all, the Rabbi's daughter!)
Career Path: Doesn't matter, as long as it involves the pursuit of Knowledge, Understanding, Coexistence, Peace, Freedom, God, Spirit, and other sometimes-esoteric abstract nouns. It's the journey, not the destination! And my, what a journey!
Known as: The Queen of Zen, who envelops us with the warm and calm spirit of an enlightened being and bathes us in her insight and moral groundedness. The "Good Influence" and "Peacemaker".
This year, she is: Doing a gap year program called Kivunim, for Jewish Youth (http://web.mac.com/kivunimprogram/KIVUNIM.org/WHAT_IS_KIVUNIM.html) that involves cooperative learning in Israel, coexistence, (learning Arabic and doing programs with different religious groups in an effort to foster understanding and appreciation), studying Judaism (embracing the nourishing wisdom of the Tanach and the Talmud), and, of course, the best part, learning about other Jewish communities around the world and then going to visit them! She'll first be studying the culture, history, economics, anthropology, religion, politics, landmarks, language, etc. and then going to experience what she had learned firsthand. Countries include: Morocco, Spain, India, Greece, Germany, Turkey, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Slovakia. Already it has been a mind-expanding spiritual experience like no other, and she has only been there a week!

Emily
D.O.B. 04/10/1992
Faith: Catholic
Career Path: Chemist (probably pharmaceutical)
Known As: The Eclectic Fashionista, Science Nerd/Academic Superstar by day, Uberchill Party Chica by night, The Sophisticated European.
This Year, she is: Studying Chemistry abroad at Bristol University in England, where she was born but barely actually lived. Should be an interesting return to her roots in those pointy high heeled boots!

Laura
D.O.B. 12/23/1988
Faith: Atheist?
Career Path: Undecided.
Known As: The Chiquita, The Fashionista,
This year, she is: Doing a volunteer program that involves community service in both a domestic location (in her case, New Brunswick) and a foreign undeveloped country (in her case, Ghana). She will be spending about half the time working in the community of Moncton at a soup kitchen among other places and the other half working in the health care sector in Ghana. She is really excited to get a taste of a different culture (though she is no stranger to culture shock, having arrived here from her native Colombia half a decade back).

Stay tuned for our updates throughout this year of growth, experience, challenge, and discovery!
